How our felt toys are made

All felt products are designed in Australia by Playtisserie. Each piece is made of 100% natural Merino wool, carefully sourced from New Zealand. We use two techniques when creating our designs: needle felting and wet felting.

Each design starts as a fluffy piece of natural wool and non-toxic dyes are used to achieve the desired colours. For needle felted products, wool fibres are compressed together by hand, and sculpted into shape by repeatedly poking the wool with a barb needle tip. Different needle sizes and techniques are used to shape and perfect each piece.

Wet felting is a process used to create felt by matting and compressing fibres, through the use of water, soap, and agitation into desired shape. Upon completion, each piece is smoothed and trimmed to look its best.

Each product is meticulously handcrafted from start to finish by skilled artisans in Nepal. Becoming fully qualified takes nearly three years of training for each artisan. Additionally, 85% of the artisans we employ are women.
